Freedom

Juneteenth-2.jpg

Freedom is free...or at least it should be.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to set aside your privilege.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to celebrate Juneteenth instead of July 4

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to see me.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to accept the lies you’ve been told.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to dig deeper.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to recognize the black men who fought along your ancestors for your Independence Day were not free.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to recognize that those black men were slaves; and returned to slavery after 7.4.1776.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to recognize that those black men remained slaves...after fighting for YOUR freedom.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to swallow that pill and accept the fact that we are not equal and I am not yet free.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to talk about the privilege you have and how you can utilize it.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to right the wrongs of which you have benefited from.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to end the lies which have re-written history.

Freedom for me means you’ve decided to celebrate freedom from slavery - Juneteenth; not July 4.

So I wonder…

When will you want me to be free?

When will you grow a detachment from your privilege enough to set me free?

When will you tell the truth about history?

…because that, that is when I will become free from systemic oppressions.
