The Bail Project, Inc. is an unprecedented effort to combat mass incarceration at the front end of the system. We pay bail for people in need, reuniting families and restoring the presumption of innocence. Because bail is returned at the end of a case, donations to The Bail Project™ National Revolving Bail Fund can be recycled and reused to pay bail two to three times per year, maximizing the impact of every dollar.

National Alliance of Mental Health (NAMI) - Black/African American Resources & Programing

**While NAMI does not have any Black people on their Board of Directors they do have some Black employees. This is not an endorsement to financially support them but rather a resource for Black Mental Health research and resources.

Identity & Cultural Dimensions: Black/African American: African Americans sometimes experience more severe forms of mental health conditions due to unmet needs and other barriers. According to the Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, African Americans are 10% more likely to experience serious psychological distress. African Americans are also more likely to experience socioeconomic disparities such as exclusion from health, educational, social and economic resources. These disparities may contribute to worse mental health outcomes.

Sharing Hope: Speaking with African Americans About Mental
Lack of information and misconceptions surrounding mental health issues prevent many members of the African American community from getting the help and support they need. Sharing Hope is an hour-long presentation that can help increase mental health awareness in African American communities by addressing a number of important topics:

  • The signs and symptoms of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and depression

  • How to talk about mental health and decrease stigma

  • An overview of recovery and how it’s possible

  • The types of mental health services and supports available, including NAMI education and support programs
